COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
RIBBON, PRINTING
COTTON AND NYLON RIBBONS FOR TELETYPEWRITER TYPEWRITERS,
RECORDING MACHINES AND COMPUTING MACHINES
The
General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item
description by all federal agencies.
1. Scope. This Commercial Item Description covers woven mtton and nylon fabric computing
and recording machine ribbons.

2. I Weave . The fabric shall have a regular commercisdweave suitable for the purpose intended
2.2. Ribbons. Ribbon edges shall be straight and parallel with the warp threads. To prevent
fraying, edges of cotton ribbons shall be woven or treated, and edges of nylon ribbons shall be
fissed.
2.3 Thickness & Yarn Count. Ribbon thickness and yearn count shall be as specified in the
contract or ordering document. ASTM D 1777 shall be used to determine thickness. Edges shall
not be used to determine fabric thickness.
2.4 Color. Ribbons shall be single color or two color as specified. Two-color ribbons shall have
an equal width for each color, unless otherwise specified.
2.5 Inking. Ribbons shall be evenly inked. The division of two-color ribbons shall be clearly
delineated, and neither color shall bleed into the other prior to or during ribbon use.
