C. A tolerance of minus 0 cm (0 inch) plus 0.16 cm (1/16 inch) will be permitted in the overall length.
D. Permissible departure from a straight edge measured at point of maximum departure shall be plus or minus 0.08 cm (1/32 inch) for 30.48 cm (12 inch) ruler and plus or minus 0.16 cm (1/16 inch) for 45.72 and 60.96 cm (18 and 24 inch rulers) see note.
Note. Permissible departure from the straight edges refers to the distance between two lines parallel to the length of the ruler, one line touching points on the edge of the ruler of maximum bulge, the other line touching points on the edge where there is a maximum depression.
E. The rulers graduations shall be scaled in black in inches and sixteenths inch. A different length of scaling shall be used to indicate each individual fractions of an inch (i.e., 1/16, 1/8, 1/4, and 1/2).
F. The rulers shall have one beveled edge provided with a liquor finish steel edging at least 0.24 cm (3/32 inch) wide and not less than 0.03 cm (0.011 inch) thick securely inserted into the edge. The metal edging shall not project beyond the body of the ruler at either end. A minus tolerance of 0.16 cm (1/16 inch) in the length of the edging will be permitted.
G. The rulers shall have the manufacturer’s standard commercial finish.
H. Unless otherwise specified, identification product marking shall be in accordance with standard commercial practice.
