COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
BINDER, LOOSE-LEAF, PRESSBOARD, FLEXIBLE COVERS
(FOR TABULATING MACHINE PAPER AND ACCESSORIES).
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial
item description in lieu of Type I, Grade D of Federal Specification W-B-336D,
which is cancelled.
This commercial item description covers requirements for
flexible post binders for containing unburst marginal punched tabulating
machine paper and accessories. Covers are separable and have a binding
mechanism with locking devices for containment of contents
Classification: The binders shall be of the following classes and
styles, as specified (see 6.b).
Class 1 - Top and bottom loading
Class 2 - Top loading.
Style A - Inside locking mechanism.
Style B - outside locking mechanism.
1. SALIENT CRARACTERISTICS:
A. Design. Binders shall be designed for containing continuous, unburst,
marginal punched tabulating sheets by means of flexible posts secured by a
locking device in the binding mechanism. Binders shall be designed for
satisfactory performance, including loading and unloading of binders and for
proper retention and performance of posts. Sheet size, capacity and color of
the binder shall be as specified (see 6.b). The first dimension cited for the
sheet size shall be the binding side. Not less than two flexible posts shall be
furnished with each binder, and shall be of sufficient length to meet the
capacity requirements specified.
Class 1. Class 1 binders shall be designed for loading or withdrawal of
sheets from the top and bottom of the binder.
Class 2. Class 2 binders shall be designed for loading or withdrawal of
the sheets from the top of the binder only.
Style A. Style A binders shall be designed so that the cover stubs turn
into the binder and have an inside locking mechanism.
