COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
ENVELOPE, TRANSPARENT
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial
Item Description in lieu of Interim Federal specification L-E-00530, which is
cancelled.
This commercial item description covers transparent envelopes used to contain
and protect paper, cards, and similar material.
CLASSIFICATION: Unless otherwise specified, the
envelopes shall be of the following types, styles, classes and sizes, as
specified (see paragraph 6).
Type I - Bound edges
Type II - Sealed edges
Style A – With holes
Class 1 - one hole (see Fig. 1)
Class 2 - two holes (see Fig. 1)
Class 3 - three holes (see Fig. 1)
Style B – Without holes
Size 1 - Length - 21 cm (8-1/4”); Width - 12.7 cm (5”)
Size 2 - Length - 23.5 cm (9-1/4”); Width - 14 cm (5-1/2”)
Size 3 - Length - 26.7 cm (10-1/2”); Width - 16.5 cm (6-1/2”)
Size 4 - Length - 31.8 cm (12-1/2”); Width - 25.4 cm (10”)
Size 5 - Length - 33 cm (13”); Width - 25.4 cm (10”)
Size 6 - Length - 43.2 cm (17”); Width - 28 cm (11”)
1. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS:
A. Construction. Unless otherwise specified, the envelopes shall be made of
colorless, transparent, commercially acceptable plastic material. Style A
envelopes front leaf shall be 20 mm (3/4”) shorter than the back leaf. Style
A’s extended portion of the back leaf shall be covered with binding. The Style
A envelopes shall be fitted with holes located as specified for Class 1, 2, and
3 (see Fig. 1 below). The holes shall contain the eyelets which shall be made
of commercially acceptable corrosion resistant metal with an inside diameter of
not less than 6.5 mm (1/4”). The Style B envelopes shall be without holes and
its front leaf shall be 5 mm (3/16”) shorter than the back leaf.
