B. Sampling. All sampling shall be performed in accordance with MIL-STD-105.
(1) Sampling for Visual Inspection. A random sample of staple strips shall be taken from each lot. Inspection level shall be II with an Acceptable Quality Level (AQL) of 4.0 percent defective. The sample unit shall be one staple strip.
(2) Sampling for Dimensional Inspection. A random sample of staple strips shall be taken from each lot. The inspection level shall be S-3 with an Acceptable Quality Level (AQL) of 4.0 percent defective. The sample unit shall be one staple strip.
(3) Sampling for Tests. A random sample of staple strips shall be taken from each lot. The inspection level shall be S-1 with an AQL of 4.0 percent defective. The sample unit shall be one staple strip.
(4) Sampling for Preparation for Delivery. For examination of interior packaging. The sample unit shall be one shipping container fully prepared for delivery, selected at random. The inspection level shall be S-2 with an AQL of 4.0 percent defective.
C. Inspections.
(1) Visual Examination. Samples taken in accordance with paragraph 4.B.1 shall be examined to verify that the superficial product characteristics are in compliance with Section 1.
(2) Dimensional Examination. Samples taken in accordance with paragraph 4.B.2 shall be examined to verify that all dimensionally measurable product requirements are in compliance with Section 1.
(3) Tests. Samples taken in accordance with paragraph 4.B.3 shall be subjected to the following tests to demonstrate consistency in product functionality, durability, and performance:
(a) Performance Test: Bond Paper, Chemical Wood Pulp Basis Weight 20-lb (17x22-500): Using the required bond paper, this test shall demonstrate the capability of the staples to consistently clinch 20 sheets when using Size 1 staples, 60 sheets when using Size 2 staples and 100 sheets when using Size 3 staples. Should a jam occur for which the test must be interrupted, it shall count as one malfunction. For each paper amount and corresponding staple size, the stapling operation shall be done 100 times. In order to be considered an acceptable specimen, at least 90 operations shall provide a standard clinch with no evidence of staple fracture or malformation, or malfunction due to jamming.
