except that the bottom channel bar shall be without slide locks and shall have
post holes to accept the flexible posts. Alternately, at the option of the

may be furnished in place of the bottom channel bar, provided it is equal or
greater in thickness to the channel bar specified above.
Posts. Posts for Class 1 binders (top and bottom loading) shall be nylon or wire fully encased in plastic, at the option of the manufacturer (see below) . Nylon posts for the Class 1 binder shall have both ends tapered. Nylon posts for the Class 2 binder (top loading) shall be nylon with one end tapered and a slotted head on the opposite end. The diameter of the head shall be larger than that of the post in accordance with good commercial practice. When heads of the posts are recessed in the binder, slot shall be designed and construed in a manner to permit tightening or removal of posts. Tightening or removal of posts shall be interpreted to mean by means of a small screwdriver or other applicable device. Posts shall be flexible and sufficiently stable so as not to loosen in the binding mechanism nor break or take a permanent set when compressed by the locking device(s). Replacement posts shall be furnished, as specified (see 6.e).
Nylon posts. Nylon posts shall be 3.18 + 0.10 mm (0.125 + 0.004)” in diameter, and shall conform to ASTM D 789.
Wire posts. The posts shall consist of at least seven strands of No. 22 annealed, galvanized wire encased in plastic in accordance with normal commercial practice. The plastic shall completely encase the wire, including the ends. The posts shall be not less than 2.84 mm (0.112”) nor more than 3.30 mm (0.130”) in outside diameter.
Suspension (Hanger) Bars. Suspension (hanger) bars shall be designed for use with binders racks or cabinets. Bars shall be compatible for use with the binder rack or cabinet specified (see 6.d).
Label Holder and Label. When specified, a label holder and label shall be provided in accordance with normal commercial practice, except that label holders shall not be of the cellulose nitrate type. Label holders shall be of the size and location on the binder as specified (see 6.f). Unless otherwise specified, the label holder shall be built into, or otherwise, securely attached to the binder and shall be nonremovable. The label holder shall be constructed so that the label can be readily inserted, removed and in the manner that the label will be retained and not fall out when binder is in normal use. Binders furnished with label holders shall be designed and fabricated in a manner that the holders will not weaken the structure of the binder nor mar smooth surfaces.
