This commercial item description covers lift-off typewriter correction tape.
Salient characteristics:
Tapes shall consist of a continuous length of plastic film coated on one side with either “sticky” (high-tack) or “dry” (low-tack) material and have both leader and trailer, each minimum of 6 inches in length. High-tack has a definite adhesive or sticky, whereas the low-tack has a wax-like to the touch.
Taps shall be of the dimensions established by the machine manufacturer for proper operations, and be firmly, evenly, and uniformly wound on spools or cores designed for proper operation with the machines specified (see note).
When properly installed in accordance with the machine manufacturer’s instructions, the tape shall not tear or be cut through during the correct operation and take up smoothly, evenly and completely.
Workmanship. The plastic film shall be free from holes, tears, or blisters, the coating materials shall be smoothly and evenly applied and of uniform thickness; and the tapes shall be free of defects such as pinholes, foreign material, streaks, or other imperfections which would adversely affect performance, durability or serviceability. In addition, tapes shall be free of ragged or nicked edges.
Test. Using a chemical wood bond paper and an IBM correctable ribbon and operating the machine in the normal manner, two lines of type shall be placed on the paper. Returning to the beginning of the two lines of type, the machine shall be placed in the correction mode. With the machine in the correction mode each typed character shall be over struct with a similar character. After completion of overstriking both lines of type, the page shall appear clean and clear with no evidence of typed characters.
Quality Assurance Provisions.
Responsibility for inspection. Unless otherwise specified in the contract or purchase order, the supplier us responsible for the performance of all inspection requirements as specified herein.
Sampling. Sampling for inspection and tests shall be performed in accordance with MIL-STD-105, except where otherwise indicated. For purposes of sampling, a lot shall consist of all tapes of the same description manufactured under the same conditions at essentially the same time.
