COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
TAB, SIGNAL, STEEL
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description for all Federal agencies.
l. SCOPE. This commercial item description covers a long-neck, projection type steel signal tab with a window which is intended for coding and directing attention to (data on records and file systems).
2. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS.
2.1 Design and construction. The signal tabs shall be designed and constructed from a spring steel of a quality which will conform with the requirements of this commercial item description. The signal tabs shall be designed and constructed to prevent bending or deformation during application and use. The upper part of the tab shall have a signal flag and neck which shall project above the top edge of the indexed material. The bottom portion of the tab shall consist of a holding device with a cutout window designed to reveal a preprinted signal.
The holding device shall be designed so as to permit the signal tab to be slipped onto an index card and to be moved to various index positions on the card without damaging the card surface, and to grip the card and maintain suitable compression to preclude accidental displacement. The lower portion of the signal tabs shall have no sharp or pointed corners nor sharp edges that will scratch or damage adjacent cards.
