COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
PENCILS, COLORED LEAD
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description, for use by all federal agencies.
1. Scope. This Commercial Item Description covers non-mechanical waxed based, lead colored pencils for obtaining water-fast and light-fast markings.
2. Classification:
Types:
I- Thin Lead
II- Thick Lead
3. Salient Characteristics:
3.1 Each lead shall be furnished in one piece, except in pencils having any combination of two colors, and shall be of such material as to produce smooth, even and uniform writing.
3.2 Leads shall be centered within the casing and securely bonded (glued) to the casing throughout the entire length in accordance with normal commercial practice. The lead shall be furnished in colors as specified, and if required shall be provided in sets of colors as specified in the ordering information.
3.3 When sharpened the wood casing shall not split, splinter or tear, shall present a smooth finish, and the lead shall not crumble or dust. Additionally, the pencil length shall be not less than 17.8 cm + .6 cm (7 inches + .25 inches).
3.4 If required, erasers shall be provided in accordance with the latest version of commercial item description A-A- 132 (type I only). Pencils shall be marked with the manufacturer’s name or trademark, and color number.
