D. Tab sets, when required, shall be as specified (See Section 7).
E. Legends. Tabs and tab sets, when required, shall be lettered or numbered as specified. Unless otherwise specified, letters and numbers shall be black (See Section 7).
Workmanship. The tab’s edges shall be clean cut and smooth. The tabs shall be free from any defects which may affect their appearance, serviceability or present a hazard to the user.
2. Test (Class B only)
Grip Performance. Slide tab over paperboard with a thickness of 0.012 inch + 0.0005 inch. Remove the tab and slide over a single sheet of manifold paper with a thickness of 0.0015 inch + 0.0005 inch. Remove and examine the tab. The metal used for reinforcing shall be such that the grip of the reinforced tabs are not affected by this test.
3. Quality Assurance
Each lot of tabs shall be inspected for conformance to the requirements herein. Sampling for inspection shall be in accordance with MIL-STD-105 using the plans specified below.
A. Sampling for visual and dimensional examination – Inspection Level I with an Acceptable Quality Level (AQL) of 4.0 percent defective. The sample unit shall be one tab.
B. Test (Class B only) – Inspection Level S-1 with an Acceptable Quality Level (AQL) of 4.0 percent defective. The sample unit shall be one tab.
C. Packaging, Packing, and Marking – Inspection Level S-2 with an AQL of 4.0 percent defective. The sample unit shall be one fully prepared shipping container.
4. Preparation for delivery
Packaging, packing and marking shall be as specified in the contract or purchase order.
