COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
RIBBON, COMPUTING MACHINE
(WORD PROCESSING)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description by all federal agencies.
1. Scope: This Commercial Item Description covers nylon fabric ribbon to be used on computing machines (word processing), in continuous lengths without joining or splicing of the fabric, except as required to make endless loops, endless coreless wound ribbons, or endless cartridge ribbons
2. Salient Characteristics:
2.1 Weave: The fabric shall have a regular commercial weave suitable for the purpose intended.
2.2 Edges: The edges shall be straight and parallel to the warp threads. Ribbon edges shall be cut and fused. Ribbons shall be of the dimensions established by the machine manufacturer for proper operations and the contractor shall certify that the ribbons are made to the original manufacturers specifications (OEM unless specified otherwise (see notes). The ribbons shall be firmly, evenly, and uniformly wound in cartridges, or on spook or cores designed for proper operation with the machines specified (see note).
2.3 Thickness, Thread Count and Weight: Ribbon thickness, tread count, sod weight shall be as indicated below, ASTM D 1777 shall be used to determined thickness. Edges will not be used to determine fabric thickness (see table I).
2.4 Color: Ribbons shall be black.
2.5 Inking: Ribbons shall be evenly inked.
2.6 Length: Length shall be as specified and shall not be shorter than one-half inch for each yard of ribbon.
