COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
TAPE, PRESSURE-SENSITIVE ADHESIVE (PLASTIC FILM)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description as a replacement for Federal Specification PPP-T-66, Type 1, Classes 1 and 2, and Type II.
This commercial item description covers pressure-sensitive adhesive tape designed for sealing out moisture and sealing interior packaging. In addition to the uses, Type I, Class 2 tape can also be used for color coding and identification and Type II tape can be used where marking or printing is required.
Classification: The tapes shall be of the following types and classes specified:
Type I,
Class 1 Transparent
Class 2 Colored
Type II, Printable
1. Salient Characteristics
The tape backing shall consist of modified polyvinyl chloride or polyvinyl chloride-vinyl acetate film. The adhesive shall be pressure-sensitive and shall require no moisture, heat, or other special preparation prior to application of the tape. The adhesive shall completely cover one side of the tape backing.
Type II tape will accept writing with pen and other common marking devices.
The following tolerances on widths shall apply: + 1/32 inch on widths under ¾ inch, + 1/16 on widths of ¾ or greater and less than 2 inches, and + 3/32 inch for widths greater than 2 inches.
The tape shall comply with the requirements in section 2 when tested with the appropriate test procedure.
Workmanship. The tape shall be uniformly constructed and free from defects which may impair usefulness of the material for the intended purpose. The adhesive shall be coated in a smooth uniform layer over the entire surface of one side of the tape backing. The tape shall be evenly and tightly wound with no voids. The edges shall be clean cut. When unwound, the tape shall not tear nor shall the adhesive separate from the backing.
