COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
CORRECTABLE TYPEWRITER RIBBONS (HIGH YIELD)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers high yield correctable typewriter ribbons for general typing applications and lift-off tape.
I. Salient Characteristics:
A. Ribbons or tapes shall be consist of continuous length of material, and when applicable, have an appropriate leader, trailer, and visible warning signal.
B. ribbons or tape shall be of the dimensions established by the machine manufacturer for proper operations and the contractor shall certify that the ribbons or tapes are made to the original manufacturers specifications (OEM) unless specified otherwise (see notes in section VIII). The ribbons or tapes shall be firmly, evenly, and uniformly wound in cartridges, or on spools or cores designed for proper operation with the machines specified (see notes).
C. Composition and application of the imaging material shall be such that it does not offset from one layer to the next.
D. When properly installed in accordance with the machine manufacturer’s instructions the ribbon or tape shall not tear nor be cut through during the typing operation and take up smoothly, evenly, and completely.
E. The ribbons shall produce black, record copy impressions which are of uniform density, clean, legible, and sharp, without smears or smudges and suitable for photo-offset reproduction processes.
