serviceability. In addition, ribbons shall be free from ragged or nicked edges, and the cartridges free from any detects which may affect serviceability.
Performance test. Select one sample ribbon and place in the machine designated for its use in the contract and operate the machine in the normal manner until the ribbon has run its full course and is wound from one side to the other. If the machine is designed for ribbon reverse, the “full course” shall include reversal and continuous operation for at least one quarter of the return length of the ribbon. During the course of the test operation, the ribbon shall be observed to ensure that it is not binding or twisting so as to interfere with proper printing. Upon completion of the test, the printed matter (the product of the ribbon printing test) shall be examined to ensure this quality of print is uniformly dark and not with blank spots, light spots, or discontinuities. Failure to comply with any of these requirements shall be cause for rejection.
Quality Assurance Provisions.
Responsibility for inspection. Unless otherwise specified, in the contract or purchase order, the supplier is responsible for the performance of all inspection requirements as specified herein.
Sampling. Sampling for inspection and tests shall be performed in accordance with MIL-STD-105, except where otherwise indicated. For purposes of sampling, a lot shall consist of all ribbons of the same description manufactured under the same conditions at essentially the same time.
Sampling of end item for visual examination. A random sample shall be taken from each lot in accordance with Inspection Level S-3. The AQL shall not exceed 2.5 percent defective. The sample shall be one ribbon.
Sampling of end items for tests. A random sample shall be taken from each lot in accordance with Inspection Level S-1. The AQL shall not exceed 2.5 percent defective.
Examination of end item for visual defects. Samples shall be examined for defects listed. Any ribbon containing one or more defects shall be rejected. The Government reserves the right to classify as a defect any not listed.
