COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
THUMBTACK
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this
Commercial Item Description as a replacement for Federal
Specification FF-T-311 which has been cancelled.
This commercial item description covers general purpose thumbtacks of two sizes, for use in attaching various materials in sheet from to drawing boards and bulletin boards.
1. Salient Characteristics
The thumbtacks shall –
Be of cold-rolled steel, or copper zinc alloy (brass) or a combination thereof, at the option of the manufacturer.
Meet the requirements stated in section 2.
Be corrosion resistant.
Shall penetrate corkboard or similar materials easily and should be also easy to remove after being impaled.
Be of the following design-
The solid head and pin shall be swaged together to form a smooth interface.
The pin shall be in the center and perpendicular to the plane of the head.
The free end of the pin shall have sharp point.
Each box shall be legibly marked with the name or trademark of the manufacturer.
Workmanship. All surfaces of the thumbtack shall have smooth finish and shall be free from rough or sharp edges with the exception of the sharp point of the pin. The pin shall not become loose, detached, bend or break during normal use. There shall be no defects that affect serviceability or appearance.
