COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION

CHALK, MARKING, WHITE (MOLDED)

The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this

Commercial Item Description in preference to Federal Specification SS-C-266

which has been cancelled

This commercial item description covers molded white marking chalk with a plain or enameled finish.

1.            Salient Characteristics.

A.            The chalk shall produce distinct, uniform and erasable markings when used for writing on commercial chalkboards.

B.            The chalk shall be either a cylinder with a diameter of at least 3/8 inch or a tapered rod with a diameter of at least 7/16 inch at one end at least 3/8 inch at the other end. A tolerance of -1/32 inch allowed.

C.            The chalk shall contain the minimum Calcium Sulfate (CaSO₄ H₂O) content and all other requirements as stated in Section 2 when tested with the appropriate test method.

D.            A recognized seal shall be marked on the packaging certifying that the chalks does not contain toxic materials in quantities sufficient to be harmful to the user as a result of any reasonably foreseeable handling or use, including ingestion.

Workmanship.  The chalk shall have a smooth, uniform surface, with a soft velvety texture, and shall be composed of material that is free from any defect that may affect its performance or use.
