COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
3.05MM LEADS, FOR CHINA MARKING, MECHANICAL PENCILS
(COLORED, WAX)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description by all federal agencies and will replace Federal Specification SS-P-186E Type I (c).
1. Scope: This Commercial Item Description covers wax leads for mechanical china making pencils.
2. Salient Characteristics:
2.1 Composition. Leads shall be of a clay or wax composition and shall produce clear visible markings good color, continuous and free from chips and crumbs. Writing on all surfaces shall be clearly legible.
2.2 Strength & Resilience. Leads shall be continuously smooth marking and shall be of such strength and resilience so as to reduce breakage when used properly.
2.3 Length & Diameter of Lead. Lead length shall be 69.8mm ± 2mm and the diameter shall be 3 mm ± 0.1 mm.
2.4 Workmanship. Leads shall conform to normal commercial practice, as applicable, and shall be suitable for the purpose intended. Leads shall be free from any defects which affect their appearance and visibility.
2.5 Leads shall be furnished in the following colors; Black, Blue, Green, Red, Yellow, Orange, Purple, and White or as specified in paragraph 6.2.
2.6 The pencils shall be capable of writing on the following glossy-surface materials: glass,
Aluminum, including aluminum foil; cellophane and cellulose acetate adhesive tape, and glazed
white porcelain.
