COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
EYELET REINFORCEMENT, GUMMED CLOTH
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description in preference to Federal Specification DDD-E-940 which is canceled.
1. SCOPE: This Commercial Item Description covers white gummed eyelets for use as reinforcement around punched holes of loose-leaf sheets.
2. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS:
2.1 The eyelet reinforcements shall be of the types, sizes, punches and tolerances indicated in table 1. The eyelets shall be circular in diameter with a center hole.
2.2. The reinforcements shall be made of bleached cloth with a non-animal adhesive on the other side. The adhesive shall be non-toxic, free of offensive odor and devoid of ingredients that may discolor the eyelet reinforcements, or the surface to which it the eyelet is applied. The adhesive shall be capable of being quickly activated with water.
2.3 Performance: The gummed surface of the eyelet shall be moistened and applied to plain bond paper. After two hours drying time, it shall not be possible to remove the eyelets without paper separation.
2.4 Bleaching: To obtain an acceptable brightness a chemical bleaching process may be used. When specified in the ordering data (See Ordering Data), the bleaching process shall not include the use of chlorine, chlorine dioxide, or other chlorine compounds. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance.
