TYPING, ELEMENT
(88 CHARACTERS)
This Commercial Item Description is approved by the Commissioner, Federal Supply Service, General Services Administration, for the use of all Federal agencies.
This commercial item description covers typing elements (BALL) for use on IBM Selectric and other compatible machines.
The elements shall have 88 characters and shall be of the following types:
Type I- 10 pitch
Type II- 12 pitch
I. Salient characteristics.
A. The typing element shall consist of appropriate materials and be of such design to fit and function on the machine for which it is designed and conform to the specification of this commercial item description.
B. Typing elements shall be of the dimensions established by the machine manufacturer for proper operations and the contractor shall certify that the typing elements are made to the original manufacturers specifications (OEM) unless specified otherwise (see notes in section VIII). The typing elements designed for proper operation with the machines specified (see notes - section VIII).
C. When properly installed in accordance with the machine manufacturer’s instructions the typing elements shall during the typing operation produce clear, clean and legible typed letters.
