This commercial item description covers colored marking chalk that is intended for use in writing on commercial chalkboards, paper, or cloth.
Salient characteristics:
Dimension. The chalk shall be cylindrical shape with a minimum length of 2-3/4 inches and a nominal diameter of at least 3/8 inch. The nominal diameter of the chalk shall have a permissible tolerance of + 1/16 inch.
Toxicity. A recognized seal shall be marked on the packaging certifying that the chalk does not contain toxic materials in quantities sufficient to be harmful to the user as a result of any reasonably foreseeable handling or use, including ingestion.
Color. The chalk shall be furnished, as specified, in one of the following colors: blue, green, orange, red or yellow. If a colored assortment is required, the set shall consist of an equal number of pieces of each of the following colors:
Black Brown (dark) Green (dark) Red (oxide)
Blue Burnt Sienna Magenta Violet
Blue Green Flesh Orange White
Blue (dark) Gold Ochre Red Yellow
Blue (light) Gray Red Orange Yellow Green
Blue (peacock) Green Red Violet Yellow Orange
Breaking Strength. The chalk shall have a minimum breaking strength of 3 lb.
Performance. The chalk shall produce distinct and uniform markings on commercial chalkboards, paper, or cloth. The chalkboard markings shall be erasable with a clean eraser and shall not permanently scratch commercial chalkboards.
Certification. The contractor shall certify the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this description and that the product conforms to the producer’s own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices and is the same product offered for sale in the commercial marketplace. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.
Recovered materials. The manufacturer shall utilize recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable.
Packaging, Packing, and Marking. The chalk shall be packaged in accordance with normal commercial practice and packed in fiberboard boxes that will assure acceptance by common carrier and can provide product protection against loss and damage during multiple shipments, handling and storage. The shipping container shall be in compliance with National Motor Freight Classification and Uniform Freight Classification. Shipping containers shall be marked as specified in the contract or order.
Note: Purchasers shall specify whether a single color or an assortment is required.
