COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
INK, WRITING FOR FOUNTAIN AND DIP PENS

This Commercial Item Description is approved by the Commissioner, Federal Supply Service, General Services Administration, for the use of all Federal agencies. This document supersedes Federal Specification TT-I-563, which is cancelled.

1. SCOPE AND CLASSIFICATION

1.1 Scope. This commercial item description covers quick drying marker ink for use for fountain and dip pens.

1.2 Types. Type I. Washable
Type II. Permanent

1.3 Colors. The ink shall be furnished with ink of one of the following colors black, blue-black, .blue, red, green or as specified in section 9 (Notes).

2. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS.

2.1 Material. The manufacturer is given a wide latitude in the selection of materials and processes of manufacture provided the ink meets the requirements of this commercial item description.

2.2 Stability. There shall be little evidence of separation of the materials and no evidence of caking of the coloring matter in the ink.

2.3 Performance. The ink shall be in a smooth working condition. Ink writing shall present clear and legible characters of uniform intensity without evidence of feathering, smudging or offsetting.

2.4 Reaction. Writing ink shall remain stable when in contact with metal parts of the fountain pen or dip set.

2.5 Washability. Type I only shall not leave a stain on the test fabric when tested in accordance, with section 3.6.
