COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
BRUSHES, MUCILAGE
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial
item description as a replacement for Federal Specification H-B-401C, which has been cancelled.
This Commercial Item Description covers requirements for
brushes used to apply mucilage in general office use.
1. Salient Characteristics
A. The brushes shall be flat and without collar and rim (see Section
8, fig. 1) Sizes: 1 inch; and, 3 inch.
B. Materials used in brushes shall be in accordance
with normal commercial practice.
C. The dimensions of the brushes shall be in conformance with Table I; and, the
design shall approximate figure I.
D. The bristles shall be pig or hog bristle. All
bristles shall be boiled or eteamed, straightened and thoroughly cleaned. The
bristle shall show no tendency to separate at the end or to flare out when the
brush is dried after washing.
E. The handle shall be made of wood, hard rubber, or slow burning or
flame proof plastic. Plastic of cellulose nitrate composition shall not be acceptable. Wood handles shall be smoothly finished with varnish, lacquer or
paint.
F. The ferrule shall be made of steel.
the steel shall be nickel Dilated, a minimum of
0.0001 inches thick (certificate of compliance shall be provided).
