COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
LABEL TAPE, PRESSURE-SENSITIVE ADHESIVE
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this
Commercial Item Description in preference to Federal Specification L-L-40.
This commercial item description covers tape suitable for marking labels by marking with a stylus or ballpoint pen.
Salient characteristics.
The tape shall consist of two layers of material, between which is sealed the marking medium. The layers shall be completely sealed at both edges. The tape shall be resistant to acid, grease, oil, and water. Each edge of the tape shall have a colored border. The tape inscription field shall contrast with the inscription.

Workmanship. The tape shall be smoothly, evenly, and tightly wound, with no wrinkles, holes or voids. The edges of the roll shall be clean-cut. When unwound, the tape shall not tear, nor shall the adhesive separate from the backing.
The issue of each ASTM test method in effect on the date of solicitation shall be used to determine compliance with these requirements.
Regulatory requirements. The offeror/contractor is encouraged to use recovered materials in accordance with Public Law 94-580 to the maximum extent practicable.
Preservation, packaging, packing, labeling, and marking. Preservation, packaging, packing, lebeling, and marking shall be as specified in the contract or order.
Notes. This tape is for labeling items in offices, laboratories, industrial plants, and other establishments. It is not recommended for labeling items for shipment, or packages for shipment.
Purchasers should specify width, length, and color of tape required.
