COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
TAPE, PRESSURE-SENSITIVE ADHESIVE (MEDIUM TENSILE STRENGTH,
TRANSPARENT, GLASS FILAMENT REINFORCED)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in preference to Federal Specification PPP-T-97, Type II, Class B.
This commercial item description covers medium tensile strength, transparent, glass filament reinforced tape.
Salient characteristics.
This medium-tensile-strength tape, which is intended for the closure of FOL, FTC, and similar type fiberboard boxes and also is used for other general bundling and similar applications, shall comply with the requirements below:

Sampling and examination shall be according to the producer’s standard practice as long as it provides equivalent assurance to that found in ASTM D 3715 with end item testing at an acceptance level (AQL) of 4 percent. For referee purposes or in cases of dispute, the sampling and examination shall be in accordance with ASTM D 3715 with end item testing at an AQL of 4 percent.
The issues of the ASTM standards in effect on the date of the solicitation shall be used to determine compliance with these requirements.
Workmanship. The tape shall be uniformly constructed and free from defects which may impair usefulness of the material for the intended use. The adhesive shall be coated in a smooth uniform layer over the entire surface of one side of the tape backing. The tape shall be evenly and tightly wound with no voids. The edges shall be clean cut. When unwound, the tape shall not tear nor shall the adhesive separate from the backing.
Regulatory requirements. The offeror/contractor is encouraged to use recovered materials in accordance with Public Law 94-580 to the maximum extent practicable.
Preservation, packaging, packing, labeling, and marking. Preservation, packaging, packing, labeling, and marking shall be as specified in the contract or order.
Note. Purchasers should specify length and width of tape required.
